What Are Liberals Defending These Days?

It’s an honest question and that is exactly why liberals don’t like it. Being from the Washington DC area and living here for so long you almost automatically get a sense of what kinds of questions you can never ask the majority of people who also live in the area – because they're almost all liberals. It’s very sad, but you just learn to cope after a while and not make a big deal about it. But, it’s also very hard not to notice the current collective howl that is ramping up each day in the left’s new attempt to remain relevant. Their forever campaign against President Donald Trump has shifted a bit and found a new target -- Elon Musk. I suppose that they needed to expand their efforts because the campaign against the latter is practically dead upon arrival. No more impeachments, no more ballot removal attempts, no more scandals -- what’s left at this point, right?

And, we get it, the villain is now Elon Musk -- or, at least he is a co-villain in the new drama being played out, but it begs an answer to the simple question: what exactly are liberals defending now? We hear the noise they’re making but what is it really about?

At the moment, the President of the United States has implemented a new commission headed by Elon Musk called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Using the word “department” does sound a bit misleading, but the total effect of the name itself does lend a nice ring to it. This commission has been empowered to find wasteful spending and policies operating within the federal government and recommend ideas to the President about how to eliminate them – that’s about it. They cannot implement anything themselves and must limit their activity to what the President asks for. And, as far as the role of the President in dealing the bloated bureaucracy -- if there is one person that has the authority to clean out the federal government it would be him, right? I can’t imagine who else would be given that kind of responsibility -- certainly not obscure activist judges walking a rather thin line in that whole separation of powers business. But yet we keep hearing about a constitutional crisis from the Trump Administration as the term is being parroted around in practically identical phraseology across mainstream media platforms throughout the country.

Ironically, or sadly, the modern liberal ideology that is waging this fight has a very poor track record when it comes to defending the Constitution. One such example is the LA Times editorial published on August 23rd, 2024 titled -- Opinion: We’re Living Under A Flawed Constitution.[1] Let’s Start Fresh and Rewrite It. This is just one of many similar calls to action regarding the far-left wet dream of destroying the Constitution. It is no secret that they despise the document and most of what it stands for -- especially if it doesn’t agree with whatever newfangled idea they have to promote their ideology.

So, in essence, when you add it all up – they don't really defend anything because their ideology practices a deeply troubling practice called double talk:

• The Biden Administration emphatically declaring that they’re “doing everything possible” to keep the border secure – all while the US experienced between 2021-2024 the highest levels of border crossings ever seen

• The Biden Administration's hopeless quest to cancel student loan debt even after the Supreme Court ruled that they weren't authorized to do it – and then declaring that President Donald Trump is a dictator creating a constitutional crisis

• Arguing emphatically that we need to send billions upon billions of dollars and equipment to Ukraine to finance a war that cannot be won and could lead to World War III – and then turning around and denouncing President Trump as a “Russian asset” when he tries to stop it all

If President Donald Trump found a cure for cancer tomorrow it is highly likely that liberals would claim he is a destroyer of life and that cancer is actually good for you. The liberal establishment has learned nothing from their mistakes of the past and have proven that they are willing to alienate anybody who presents common sense to their ideology. They have already lost significant numbers of supporters in recent years and at their current rate are headed for political extinction. Someone should warn them that double talk doesn't work so well when all you have left to talk to is yourself. The only thing they'll have to defend is whatever remains of their dignity.
